Rancho Valmora
is
a non-profit residential treatment center and school for adolescents
between the ages of 12 and 18. Rancho Valmora is located on the
front-range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico
and is a little over one hour from Santa Fe. The property includes
approximately 1,000 acres of Ponderosa and Pinon Pine, river habitat
and short-grass prairie that provides a beautiful setting and is
ideal for horseback riding, hiking and other outdoor activities.
Rancho
Valmora has a unique history that is recognized by its designation
on the National Historic Register. The property was founded in 1905
as a tuberculosis treatment center. The property was chosen because
of its mild, sunny climate and because of the existence of a very
productive artesian spring, which produces approximately 25,000
gallons per day and still provides the water needs for our students
and facility. Many of the buildings date to this historic period,
including the Administration building, Dining Hall, Recreation Hall,
Ice Cream Parlor and Administration house.
Our
treatment program is intended for 12-18 year old males and females
who may be experiencing a wide range of educational, emotional and/or
behavioral problems. These problems include difficulty in family
and/or peer relationships, mood disorders, externalizing disorders
such as attention deficit, hyperactivity and oppositional defiant
disorders, substance/alcohol abuse related disorders, and personality
disorders. Students also typically have experienced setbacks and
problems in school and may qualify for special education assessment or services.
Rancho
Valmora is licensed through the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families
Department as a Residential Treatment Center. We are also a member
of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs
(NATSAP). Our school is accredited through the New Mexico Public
Education Department and through the North Central Association Commission
on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA-CASI).
